It's no secret that surfing the Internet via smartphones has really taken off in recent years. Internet connection is now offered by almost every mobile operator in the world, and believe it or not, in some developing countries where people cannot afford to own a computer, mobile phones with Internet access are the only source of their online information. Today, however, almost everyone uses a smartphone to obtain information. This is also why you should start thinking "mobile first", i.e. first with regard to optimizing your websites for mobile screens.

Smartphones have become a popular tool for obtaining information in a completely natural way. This is the evolution of communication, which also brought with it the possibility of surfing the Internet anytime, anywhere. Already in 2014 owned in the world, more people have a smartphone or mobile phone with internet access than a computer. Today, the smartphone is the first thing that many of us grab in our hand after waking up and the last thing that we let go of before going to sleep.
Another major milestone in history was written in October 2016. That was the first time that smartphones surpassed the use of computers when browsing the Internet. 51.3% of websites were loaded on a mobile device in a given month. Today, this number is close to 90% in developing countries and an average of 70-75% in the developed part of the world.
According to estimates, only in Central and Eastern Europe agency GfK this year it will sell almost 84.5 million smartphones. According to the data, the smartphone in Slovakia today Market Locator owns approx 1.4 million people, while about 1.3 million people use classic mobile phones, most of which already offer Internet access.
We prefer a smartphone to a PC
The trend in surfing the web via smartphone has already arrived in Slovakia. And it is not new for us. An estimated 60 to 70% of website visits in Slovakia come from smartphones and tablets. This is also why it is necessary that your website, or e-shop, have been optimized especially for mobile devices.
A typical day of a modern Slovak starts with a coffee in one hand and a smartphone in the other. We only use computers during the day when we are working or studying. From the early afternoon, they will be replaced again by smartphones, which we use not only when traveling, but also when playing sports, sitting for a coffee, watching TV or during moments of personal free time. Many do not take a single step without their smartphone.
How to optimize your website for smartphones?
In order for your website to be displayed correctly on mobile screens, you will mainly achieve it by using responsive design. But it must be applied to the theme of your website when creating it. If your website does not use responsive design, you can also use mobile theme. But it does not guarantee that it will website adapts correctly to the proportions of each smartphone or tablet display.
