Today, the word "influencer" is used in many different ways. You will learn who we can name with this term and why an influencer is important for your business in our next blog.
Who is an influencer?
The article was revised and updated in May 2026.
Word influencer originated from the English influence (transl. influence). We use it to denote a person who is opinion-forming for a certain group of people, is a role model for them and helps them make decisions. Today, we can call influencers mainly publicly known persons (actors, musicians, athletes, YouTubers, etc.). As a rule, influencers have their own group of fans, which is characterized by some common feature or is united by common interests. And that is precisely the significant contribution of such a person to your company from a business point of view.
How to choose an influencer and how can it help you?
There are several ways. It is enough for someone who has social influence to become the face of your company. However, you shouldn't choose an influencer based on personal preferences, but based on whether it has something to do with your customers and the target group you're trying to reach. The marketing contribution of such an influential person can be greater than a successful advertising campaign for one of your products. Together with the influencer you can create:
- communication on social networks:
- Facebook campaigns,
- posts on the influencer's social profiles with your products,
- YouTube videos published on your YouTube channel and on the influencer's channel,
- ads:
- video advertisement on YouTube,
- banners in online advertising networks,
- billboards with an influencer and your product or company,
- native advertising on partner portals,
- PR articles in the media,
- other activities:
- a video series where the influencer can show the use of your products and services,
- blog posts for your website,
- video trailers that you can use in your videos,
- photos that can be used for further communication (brochures, leaflets, advertising, ...).
When choosing an influencer, you should consider as many as possible common features with yours persons. If your target group is a young audience, bet on YouTubers or stars of popular series or movies. If you sell sports equipment, bet on a successful athlete. It doesn't always have to be the most popular people from the area. In some cases, it is better to reach for a face that has not yet been part of a larger advertising campaign.
A good example of an influencer is Sajfa in the campaign for Tatra banka.
Pokiaľ využijete potenciál influencera naplno a vytvoríte s ním výbornú reklamnú kampaň, vaši klienti si jeho tvár budú spájať s vašou značkou. A vtedy máte vyhraté!
Micro-influencers
Micro-influencers are the new buzzword in influencer marketing. They are individuals who are also active on social networks, but are not that big in terms of the number of fans/followers. They mostly have 1 to 10,000 fans. It can be classically travelers, food bloggers, fitness enthusiasts, or fashion bloggers.
The fact that they are smaller in terms of fans is precisely their advantage. They usually have a higher level of interaction than larger influencers with 100,000 fans, as only people who are interested in the same topic follow them.
They are authentic
Micro-influencers work on the principle of word of mouth. For example when they share a post-workout protein bar photo on Instagram, few question it. It's easier for people to believe that the micro-influencer actually bought or used the displayed product. This type of authenticity will attract interaction, brand awareness and subliminal perception. Of course, according to the rules, collaboration must be clearly marked as paid sponsorship on Instagram, but not every follower always notices it. They are also more affordable compared to big influencers.
Platforms for working with influencer marketing
Working with influencers is a project like any other. Therefore, it is advisable to use similar tools for it.
- Google Docs - documents, tables, presentations that you can share with influencers to create a successful collaboration,
