B2B mobile e-commerce and why wholesalers should not underestimate it

Wholesalers and distributors considered for a long time e-commerce only for an additional solution. But they can't do that anymore. B2B sales are resolutely moving towards online and above all towards mobile within B2B mobile e-commerce.

Few retailers have realized that e-commerce has clear advantages in the form of increasing and automating sales processes, reducing costs, minimizing problems with orders and freeing up staff for more strategic tasks.

The article was revised and updated in May 2026.

And of course, by eliminating the barrier of trading only during the day, customers can order at any time and from anywhere. All this led to higher sales.

What is B2B mobile e-commerce?

"Mobile first", B2B e-commerce provides a highly effective way to increase sales and create loyal customers. The mobile version simplifies the purchasing process and at the same time creates long-term added value for customers. Orders can be placed instantly, regardless of where the customer is at the moment, directly from a smartphone or tablet without the need to switch from one device to another.

Mobile e-commerce means creating a more efficient ordering process with a focus on the customer.

Numbers, numbers and again numbers

As we stated in the previous article, get to know b2B e-commerce, the fastest growing segment of b2B, the numbers speak for themselves - over 30% of B2B customers made 50% of their purchases online in 2016, while B2B e-commerce conversion is at the level of 7.4%, which is at least 2x higher than the average for B2C e-shops.

As for the statistics on mobile usage in Slovakia, on average, almost every fourth Slovak (23%) buys online using their smartphone, while the e-shop pages themselves are visited by approximately 700,000 Slovaks every month.

B2B is generally not far behind B2C when it comes to mobile sales. According to the data, B2B companies generate 19.4% of online sales come from mobile devices. This is not at all far behind B2C, which generate 22.6% of sales from mobile devices.

As the numbers for the number of mobile devices will naturally grow, so will the share of mobile revenue from total B2B sales. And the number of mobile devices will surely grow. Between 2015 and 2020, an annual increase of more than 17% is estimated.

What prevents faster growth?

Although mobile shopping has definite advantages, many people still do not take full advantage of it. However, for 5 out of 6 reasons, separate companies are to blame, as will be discussed below. The 6th reason is the fear of non-transparency, where people are afraid to put their private data on smartphones and they fear the theft of personal data such as credit card number. This can be solved by e-commerce sellers by ensuring the greatest possible security and appropriate information to users.

As mentioned above, the remaining 5 reasons are up to the sellers themselves. It is about:

  1. unresponsiveness of the mobile version of the website

Responsiveness and mobile devices go hand in hand. Surprisingly, even in 2017, there are many sellers who do not have a mobile version of the website.

  1. complicated filling of personal data

More than ¼ of users (29%) are discouraged by the inefficient system of filling in personal data in the purchase form. In addition, there is also an incorrect placement of the order confirmation buttons.

  1. complicated navigation

Users consider the fact that the site itself seems too complicated for them to be a frequent reason for discomfort. With mobile e-commerce, the goal should be to create navigation using buttons and guides in such a way that the user can easily move between individual parts of the website.

  1. slow page loading

Slow loading pages = mobile conversion killer. Up to 40% of users were deterred from buying products or services that took a long time to load. How long are people willing to wait? If your page doesn't load in more than 2-3 seconds, they will move on to your competition.

  1. incomplete product details

The size of the mobile device display limits the amount of information you are able to provide to your customers. Therefore, you need to learn how to better work with information using text formatting and display only the most important information to users.

A final thought

If B2B mobile e-commerce seems like a distant future to you, or only something the biggest players in the industry can think about, think again. The B2B world is changing at a rapid rate. Although B2B is a hot topic in the e-commerce environment recently, its next field of activity will be the mobile sphere.
